Protection and Conservation

One of the main activities at Campamento Tortuguero Mayto is the protection of nests from three different species (Olive Ridley, Pacific Green and Leatherback) within hatcheries to avoid loss due to predation or beach erosion.

Night Patrols

Surveillance brigades along the 13 km of Mayto beach in search of sea turtle nests. The eggs are collected and relocated to incubation pens for monitoring until hatching.

Hatcheries

Constant monitoring of factors such as humidity and temperature during the incubation of the nests to have successful hatchings.

Hatchlings release

Hatchlings that are ready to be released will be placed on the shore and accompanied until their entry into the ocean
